MSI unveils the Kabini powered S12T notebook

MSI’s latest Kabini powered low-cost notebook will be available in time for the holidays.

MSI is launching a new notebook based on AMD’s low-power Kabini APU platform.

Kabini is the family of processors that utilize AMD’s Jaguar architecture in notebooks. On the MSI S12T, users can choose either the 1.4 GHz dual-core E1-2100 APU or the quad-core 1.5 GHz A4-5000 APU.

The E1-2100 APU comes with a 1 MB L2 cache and a DirectX 11 enabled Radeon HD 8210 GPU that is clocked at 400 MHz. The A4-5000 comes with a quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU followed by a Radeon HD 8330 GPU which is clocked at 600 MHz.

The 11.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 comes with ten point multitouch. There is also a Gigabit LAN port, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, HD webcam at the front, two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, HDMI out, Bluetooth 4.0 and an SD card reader. The notebook comes with 4 GB of RAM and a 500 GB HDD by default, and users can customize to 16 GB RAM and a 128 GB SSD.

AMD’s low-power architecture allows for longer battery life, and MSI claims that these models will be able to deliver five hours of battery life when working, with four hours of battery life when watching HD videos.

A unique feature in MSI’s S12T notebooks is an access panel at the bottom that lets users change out the hard drive or install more memory. The notebook features a brushed aluminum chassis with a plastic cover at the bottom.

MSI hasn’t announced the pricing details for the notebook yet, but it should be on sale for the holiday season.
