Purported press image of second-gen Google Nexus 10 surfaces, looks fishy

Ask and it will be given to you. It was only a few weeks ago that I expressed my incredulity towards an imminent second-gen Nexus 10 unveiling what with there being no actual photos of the device out and about and, voila, here’s the first render.

Alleged render, for the record, as the pic has earlier today landed in Phone Arena’s inbox via an “anonymous tipster”, therefore having no real credibility… yet. Plus, if you look closely, you’ll notice a wallpaper stylized as the number five, which is most likely a nod to the upcoming Nexus 5, not the N10-2.

So was the image doctored after an N5 presser to make it seem like it stars the phone’s bigger brother? I wouldn’t rule that out, though at this point we really can’t have any guarantees one way or the other.

Assuming the photo is the real deal, what’s intriguing is there’s absolutely no way to tell who Google’s manufacturing partner ended up being. It could very well be Samsung, given a second shot at cracking the iPad-dominated market niche, or it could be Asus, as earlier rumors suggested.

What’s crystal clear is the spanking new 10-incher, again if real, looks much sleeker and more elegant than its predecessor, with less tacky curves, rough edges (in a good way) and fairly albeit not incredibly slim bezels.

Moving on to the technical department, we have very little to go on, but you don’t need Sherlock’s deduction skills to guess the next N10 (likely called Nexus 10 2014) will sport a 2,560 x 1,600 pixels resolution 10.1-inch screen, run Android 4.4 KitKat out the box and pack either a Snapdragon 800 CPU or an Nvidia Tegra 4. With 2 GB of RAM.

And remember, all that may cost a measly $350 in a 32 GB-backed flavor. Doesn’t it sound peachy? Almost too good to be true…
