The dust may still be far from settled in regards to Google’s Nexus 5 and Nexus 10 2013, which may or may not come out this week, but as the tech world continues to move, we can’t help but look towards the more distant future.
A future where the Nexus family is rumored to include not only 5, 7 and 10-inch members, but also, get this, an 8-incher. Whaaaaaat? Well, don’t act that surprised. After all, there was a certain visionary wannabe back in May that envisioned an LG-made N5 with Full HD screen (so far, so good), plus an Asus Nexus 8 and Samsung Nexus 11.
The N11 is unlikely to ever become reality, at least in that specific form, with Big G keen on keeping things the way they are as far as the display on the bigger Nexus is concerned. Yet maybe the N8 concept render was not that far-fetched.
One small adjustment though. If the latest gossip is to be trusted, the 8-incher won’t be co-manufactured by Asus. Instead, LG may try its hand at a tab for the second time in 2013, following the fairly well-received G Pad 8.3.
And it’s exactly G Pad’s model number that hints at an LG-made Nexus 8 being in the works, as a certain LG V510 has been spotted getting Bluetooth SIG’s stamp of approval. V510 is really close to V500 (aka the G Pad 8.3), and you’re probably well aware a similar model numbering scheme is used for the G2 and Nexus 5, aka the D800/D805 and D820.
Granted, that’s indirect circumstantial evidence… at best, so it has to be taken with at least the customary pinch of salt. Maybe even a fistful, though remember, it’s bad for the heart.

Now, assuming the V510 is indeed a Nexus 8 and not a mere LTE-enabled, region-specific G Pad 8.3, when should we expect it to land? Well, I’m no Nostradamus, but if I were a betting am, I’d say as early as next month. Bold prediction, I know, yet long shots pay best.
