Facebook CFO: Teens are getting bored of us

Facebook’s CFO has finally made it public that teens are bored of his company’s social networking platform, confirming many people’s theory that Facebook is slowly losing users.

Social networking analysts and even people within Facebook, itself, have known for quite some time that teens are becoming less and less interested in its networking platform.* Today, Facebook CFO David Ebersman reluctantly confessed that Facebook “did see a decrease in daily users, specially among younger teens.”

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in July, dismissed the notion that teens were becoming less interested in Facebook in favor of other platforms.* He argued that it was difficult to measure certain age groups because “people lie about their age.”

“You could naively assume that more new services means people spend less time on Facebook,” said Zuckerberg.* “People on average are spending more time on Facebook than ever before.”

The dorm room social network that spawned into a multibillion dollar company may have a strong following in people past their teens, but growth relies heavily on attracting new users.** Facebook, since its IPO, has taken a strong stance on how it can exploit the mobile ecosystem.* The company’s recent release of Facebook Home didn’t impress or attract many, and so we’ll have to keep an eye on what else Facebook may have in mind to entice current and future users to use its platform over others.
