Sony has also revealed what features will be available on the console’s launch, and touted capabilities like Remote Play, second screen content with the PlayStation App, and play-as-you-download will all be available upon launch.
Below is a list of PS4 functions that Sony has confirmed will be available after downloading the launch update:
- Remote Play - Streaming gameplay over Wi-Fi to a PS Vita was one of most innovative features of the PlayStation 4, and it will be available upon launch. However Sony has said “the latest PS Vita system software version, to be released soon, will be required to use PS4 Link,” so hopefully that said update for the handheld is released on or before the PS4′s launch.
- Second Screen Content - Utilizing the PS Vita’s PS4 Link app as well as the PlayStation App for mobile phones and tablets, gamers can interact with their games to provide unique second screen experiences.
- *Record, take screenshots and upload gameplay footage – Thanks to the PS4′s “dedicated always on video encoding systems”, gamers can effortlessly upload gameplay footage and use the Share button on the DualShock 4 to pass those great moments on to your friends. At launch gamers can shre images and videos with friends on Facebook and screenshots with followers on Twitter, but Sony’s news update doesn’t say anything about YouTube…yet.
- Broadcast and spectate modes -*Spectating and real-time broadcasting will be available at launch using Ustream and Twitch. Users can spectate via the “Live from PlayStation” application on the PS4 as well as on the PC via Ustream and Twitch–as well as from mobile phone apps of each respective streaming service.*Oh and gamers with PS Cameras can stream camera images and footage as well as microphone sounds over their footage, affording for walkthroughs or general entertainment.
- Play as you download – It’s pretty self explanitory, but Sony reminds users that this function varies entirely on a few parameters like overall game data size and network speeds. Plus not all games will support “play as you download”, but it will definitely be available after the v 1.50 update is downloaded.
- Multi Log-In - Up to four users can log-in on a single PS4 at the same time, and can earn their own trophies and save their own content while utilizing their specific PSN accounts.
- Party Chat – The PS4 comes with a mono headset that can be used to party chat with up to eight friends across both the PS4 and PS Vita. That last bit is particularly interesting.
- PS Camera: Face recognition and voice commands -*Using the PS Camera, users will be able to navigate and control their PS4 as well as login with facial recognition security measures instead of using the DualShock 4.

Additionally some features won’t be available on the PS4′s launch including the suspend/resume mode:
“Some features will not be available at launch, such as “suspend/resume mode” which is a feature that keeps the PS4 system in a low power state and promptly takes users back to their game. “
