'Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition' outed for next-gen consoles

An enhanced version of this year’s Tomb Raider reboot is set to make make its way on to the Xbox One and the PS4 in the form of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.

It’s finally official: The next-gen version of the Tomb Raider reboot will be released for the Xbox One and the Ps4 early next year. The news was revealed at VGX 2013 along with a trailer for the game. The confirmation comes on the heels of weeks of speculation after an Amazon listing outed the updated version back in November.

This enhanced edition of Lara Croft’s well received adventure was re-built specifically for these next-gen consoles and will include all the content that was released for the game since its launch on the current generation of machines, along with a few extra goodies. The package will include all of the DLC released so far, six different outfits for our intrepid heroine, a digital art book and a digital comic book which adds a little more backstory to the proceedings.

Tomb Raider was a critical and commercial success upon its release in March of this year. Originally released for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, it told the story of Lara Croft’s first adventure and showed us how the world’s most iconic video game heroine developed into the fearless tomb defiler we know and love. It was one of my personal favourite games of 2013, and I wasn’t even a Tomb Raider fan to begin with. The game has sold about 4 million copies to date, yet inexplicably, was still considered to be an under-performer in sales terms by publisher Square Enix. That might explain why the company is so keen to roll out an update version for the Xbox One and the PS4 while the next-gen iron is still hot.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will be available for both the Xbox One and the PS4 on the 28th of January.
