'Tomb Raider' creative director joins 343 Industries

Tim Longo, the creative director of this year’s Tomb Raider reboot, has joined 343 Industries as, funnily enough, creative director.

The current custodian of the*Halo franchise – 343 Industries – has scooped up the creative director of Crystal Dynamics, Tim Longo.

Longo is the creative force behind this year’s well received Tomb Raider reboot, and his credentials include the 2005 shooter Star Wars: Republic Commando.

343 Industries was, of course, handed the reins of Microsoft’s beloved Halo franchise after Bungie went on to pursue other projects after Halo: Reach. The studio has already proven itself to many fans with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary*and Halo 4, and is currently working on an untitled project in the Halo series for the Xbox One. If you like the direction the series is going in so far, then the good news is that the former creative director of 343 Industries is still around. Josh Holmes has been handed the position of executive producer as Tim Longo was brought in to take his spot.

It is not as if the former Crystal Dynamics man is lacking in experience as far as first person shooters are concerned. Longo was the creative director of Star Wars: Republic Commando during his time at LucasArts. That game was well received when it released back in 2005, but the genre has evolved since then. It will be interesting to see how Longo will shape the future of the Halo franchise.

Meanwhile, back at Crystal Dynamics, life goes on. The studio recently unveiled a next-gen facelift for the Tomb Raider reboot dubbed Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, which will be available for the Xbox One and the PS4 on the 28th of January.
