President Obama not allowed to use the iPhone due to 'security reasons'

Known as a die-hard BlackBerry fan, U.S. President Barack Obama says he is not allowed to use the iPhone due to “security reasons.”

Obama’s insistence to hold on to his BlackBerry when he first took office at the White House back in 2009 has been well documented.*He was told not to use the Canadian manufacturer’s devices when he took charge, however Obama fought with his handlers to hold on to his BlackBerry and they reached a compromise. He was allowed to keep it so that he could communicate with a small group of personal friends as well as his senior staff. It is said that only ten people have his personal e-mail address, he became the first U.S. president to personally use e-mail for communication.

Despite the fact that Obama uses an iPad, he says he is not allowed to use an iPhone for “security reasons.” These remarks were made at a youth meeting to promote Obamacare. Apple was one of the few companies named in PRISM documents leaked by Edward Snowden, alleging that the company had given access to the NSA to user data. Apple, as well as almost every company mentioned in those documents, have denied these allegations.

It is unclear if this is the reason why President Obama’s camp lets him use a BlackBerry and not an iPhone, but it plays out nicely from a PR perspective for BlackBerry. One of the most powerful men in the world is a devoted user.
