iPad Air activations dominated holiday shopping weekend



Analytics data reveals that new iPad Air activations dominated all tablet activations throughout the holiday shopping weekend.





The holiday shopping weekend started off last week on Thursday, on Thanksgiving and Black Friday alone, online shoppers spent nearly $2 billion. Deals continued throughout the weekend and ended with Cyber Monday, the last day of this shopping weekend. iOS was found to have led Android on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday in generating online traffic and sales, latest data from analytics firm Localytics shows that new iPad Air activations were far greater than any other tablet sold during this period.

When compared to the weekend prior to the holiday shopping period ending with Cyber Monday, new iPad Air activations climbed 51 percent. Retina iPad Mini trailed in second with 26 percent additional activations. The only Android contender in this list is the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7, which saw new activations climb 23 percent.*Apple offered customers an added incentive to purchase the iPad Air during the weekend, it was offering a $75 gift card with each purchase. Amazon offered a deal on Cyber Monday, a $50 discount on prices of several Kindle Fire tablets.

Smartphones were led by the iPhone 5C, with an additional activations reaching 26 percent. Android contender was the Samsung Galaxy S4, which managed a 20 percent surge despite the fact that the device is nearly nine months old now.
