New Nvidial Shield update brings 1080p game streaming at 60fps

Nvidia’s newest update boosts the fidelity of the Shield handheld up to full 1080p HD for select PC titles.

In a recent blog post, Nvidia has announced their newest update for the Shield handheld will bring a nice graphical boost for gamers looking to enjoy their titles in full HD. The software upgrades the Shield’s game streaming resolution from 720p to full 1080p HD, and keeps the standard 60 fps output.
“GAMESTREAM Now Supports 1080p at 60 FPS

“Emerging from beta just last month, GAMESTREAM lets users equipped with our latest Kepler-class GTX graphics cards wirelessly stream their PC games to SHIELD.

“Our latest update improves the GAMESTREAM experience, adds support for new games, and gives PC gamers the ability to stream select games from their PC library to SHIELD at a silky-smooth 60 frames per second at a jaw-dropping 1080p over an Ethernet connection while SHIELD is in console mode.”

This update follows Nvidia’s recent slew of additions to the Tegra 4-powered handheld including console mode, button mapping, and GameStream technology.

Coupled with the ability to stream select games from a Nvidia-powered PC, console mode adds the best of both worlds, and players can even add in button-mapping features to mimic a fully-fledged mobile gaming experience.

As of right now only a small number of PC games can be played in 1080p over the Shield’s GameStream mode, including*The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, BioShock: Infinite, Borderlands 2, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Batman: Arkham Origins and Crysis 3.

Nvidia promises to expand 1080p support for more PC games with more updates in the next coming weeks. For more information on the Shield’s newest update, be sure to head on over to Nvidia’s official website.
