MSI’s Z87I Gaming AC motherboard and GTX 760 Gaming ITX video card offer the same gaming prowess at a smaller form factor.
Gamers wanting to build a decent mini-ITX rig can now look forward to the Z87I Gaming AC motherboard from MSI. The Z87I is based off Intel’s Z87 Express Chipset, and comes with an LGA Socket 1150 (4th generation Intel). Gamers can install DDR3 memory that is clocked as high as 3000 MHz, and the board allows for a total of 32 GB of RAM over two slots.
In terms of connectivity, the board comes with six USB 3.0 ports, four at the back and two through internal connectors, and a total of four USB 2.0 ports (two at the back, two available through USB connectors). There is a single PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, and four internal SATA 6 Gb/s ports. At the back, there is a DisplayPort along with an HDMI out (max. resolution of 3840 x 2160) and a DVI-I.
An Intel Centrion Wireless-N 2230 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card comes installed on the board, which provides Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, along with Bluetooth v4.0 LE. There is a Realtek ALC892 codec on-board that brings 7.1 channel HD audio, and a Killer E2205 Gigabit Ethernet card. MSI’s Command Center software makes it easier for users to configure overclock settings and monitor system functions directly from the interface.
The GTX 760 Gaming ITX video card brings the features of the GTX 760 in a diminutive form factor. The card measures just 170mm x 120mm x 35mm, which allows it to fit comfortably in a mini-ITX rig. MSI has mentioned that it has used a Radax fan on the GTX 760 Gaming ITX, which is a hybrid of a radial and axial fan, and allows for more efficient cooling.
The card is also an overclocked version as it comes with a base clock of 1,033MHz (from 980MHz on the reference GTX 760), and a boost clock of boost of 1,098MHz (from 1,033 MHz on the reference GTX 760).
MSI has not divulged the pricing information for both products yet, but they should be making their way onto store shelves *shortly.
