iPad leads tablets during holiday weekend as Retina iPad mini supplies improve

Tablets were some of the most sought after products this holiday weekend, with Apple’s iPad leading tablets in this particular segment.

Over 39 percent of online holiday shoppers were interested in buying a tablet this holiday weekend, reveals Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian White in a new research note. Walmart and Target back up the discoveries in the research note as both retailers have announced that the iPad remained the top selling tablet throughout Black Friday, the day over $1.2 billion was spent on online shopping alone.

Word of Retina iPad mini supplies improving comes at a rather lucrative time, Apple would have no doubt wanted to cash in on the holiday shopping frenzy. For that, it would have needed to have ample inventory to work with. When the Retina iPad mini was initially released last month, supplies were very tight from the start. Recent channel checks indicate that supplies have improved, all Wi-Fi only models are available from most Apple Retail Stores in the U.S., whereas 64GB and 128GB cellular models remain difficult to find. Major U.S. carriers already have the cellular models backordered, however there appears to be ample supply of the 16GB Wi-Fi + cellular Retina iPad mini.

Supply of Apple’s latest tablet is expected to further improve around Christmas. Recent reports suggest that production bottlenecks have been taken care of and that Apple ordered as many as four million Retina iPad mini units in November, a gradual increase in production is expected in December.
