MSI launches 3K resolution gaming notebook and workstation

MSI’s latest notebook in the GT 60 series comes with a 3K resolution screen and other high-end hardware.

The MSI GT60 2OD-261US is MSI’s latest offering in the GT60 series, and the gaming notebook has a list of features as long as its name. The most notable of these is the 15.6-inch screen with the WQHD resolution of 2880 x 1620 pixels. The calibre of the screen can be fully put to the test thanks to Nvidia’s GTX 780M card that comes with the notebook. The Nvidia card comes with 4GB GDDR5 video memory at a base clock frequency of 823 MHz on a 256-bit interface.

Under the hood, the GT60 2OD-261US also features Intel’s 4th-generation Haswell 2.4 GHz Core i7 4700MQ CPU, 16 GB DDR3 RAM at 1600 MHz, 1TB HDD along with a 128 GB SSD and Killer E2200 LAN card and Killer Wireless-N 1202 WLAN card. There are three USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 port, along with HDMI, DisplayPort and VGA out as well as a 720p webcam at the front of the notebook.

MSI has collaborated with gaming hardware manufacturer Steelseries for the keyboards on its gaming notebooks, and as such the GT60 2OD-261US features a Steelseries keyboard that comes with customizable backlighting and n-key rollover. The Dynaudio speakers on the notebook come with a subwoofer for added bass.

The GT60 2OKWS-278US shares similar hardware as its gaming counterpart, but comes with Nvidia’s Quadro K3100M GPU instead of the GTX 780M. The GT60 2OD-261US gaming notebook is currently selling for $2,199.99 while the GT60 2OKWS-278US workstation is retailing at $2,799.99.
