The LG Chromebase is an upcoming all-in-one (AIO) PC model running the Google Chrome OS, with pricing and release details expected during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month.
Korean electronics maker LG announced the Chromebase Google Chrome-based AIO desktop, trying to boost the AIO market.
The LG Chrome AIO runs 1920×1080 full HD resolution on a 21.5-inch display, powered by an Intel Celeron CPU with 2GB RAM and a 16GB solid-state drive.* In addition, the Chromebase has one USB 3.0 port, HDMI port, and two USB 2.0 ports, built-in 5w speakers, along with a 1.3-megapixel camera.
The hardware isn’t earth-shattering, but the Chrome OS is designed to be a fast, reliable operating system that boots fast and is relatively easy-to-use.* The PC should be able to easily run apps, games and streaming video, according to LG, as an ideal solution for schools, small and midsize businesses, and front offices.
LG didn’t disclose a launch date or pricing for the Chromebase.
With the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) just a few weeks away, there could be a flood of all-in-one PC announcements – and LG’s decision to make an announcement prior to the end of 2013 should allow for additional time to grab consumer attention. *AIOs continue to endure a rather turbulent existence, though with LG and other manufacturers have shifted focus due to sliding traditional PC sales.
Ultimately, this is a major victory for the Chrome OS, which largely remains a cloud-based OS for entry-level laptops and mobile products.* Unlike Microsoft Windows, Google designed its OS to rely largely on Web-based apps and cloud storage with very little maintenance needed to keep the machine operating.
