With the 2013 edition of the Nexus 7 out the door already, the likely LG-made N5 is by far the most hyped and anticipated new Google device tipped for a commercial launch by the end of the year. But what about the second-gen Nexus 10?
Isn’t that thing deserving of a little bit of hype? It is, but apparently with a big emphasis on “little bit”. Rumored to be co-branded by Samsung, exactly like its forefather, until not long ago, the N10-2’s run in the rumor mill so far can be summed up by recapping just one lousy report.
And while that very clearly pinpointed the name of Google’s partner in this new venture, it provided no insight whatsoever into the tab’s possible specs. Nor did it show its mysterious face. We didn’t even get the vaguest ETA, albeit there was a small hint on (UK) pricing.
The weirdest thing is even legendary insider @evleaks seems short on new Nexus 10 news, which means either this qualifies for the best kept secret in Android history, or no one really cares about it. And I’m afraid the latter is the most plausible theory.
On the bright side, the latest tweet from Evan Blass at least sets in stone the Google/Asus Nexus 10 is coming, probably alongside its little brother sometime on or around October 14. And since the Nexus 5 is said to be (loosely) based on LG’s G2, a wild but educated guess at this point would be the second-gen N10 will itself take a cue or two from a device already out and about.
The most qualified candidate? Asus’ Transformer Pad Infinity TF701T, sans the docking station. Not yet up for grabs anywhere in the world, but official ever since June, the 10.1-incher sports a stunning 2,560 x 1,600 pixels resolution display and is one of the few gadgets to rely on Nvidia’s quad-core Tegra 4 platform for speed.
There are also 2 gigs of RAM beneath the slate’s hood, 32 and 64 GB storage options, as well as pre-loaded Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Now, since Big G has joined hands with Qualcomm for the Nexus 7 2013, it seems a stretch they’ll now go Nvidia’s way, so the Tegra 4 will probably be swapped for a Snapdragon 800. A software upgrade from 4.2 to 4.3 or even 4.4 is definitely in the cards too, but otherwise the N10-2 and TF701T should essentially be identical twins. Or will they, what do you guys think?
