8 megapixel cameras rumored for iPad 5 and iPad mini 2

Rumors about Apple’s upcoming iPads have become a daily occurrence. The latest suggests that iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 might have 8 megapixel rear cameras.

There has been no confirmation as yet from Apple, the company hasn’t said when it is going to unveil its new iPads and exactly what specifications they will be touting. Nevertheless, the rumor mill doesn’t stop churning until the official announcement has been made. Previous rumors suggest that the iPad mini 2 will have a Retina display and that the iPad 5 will be thinner, lighter and similar in design to the iPad mini. Both tablets are also expected to get a hardware boost under the hood.

This latest rumor, or prediction, comes from well known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. Kuo has made a number of predictions in the past as well, the track record of his predictions is mixed at best.*Kuo claims that Apple will aim to make cameras a major selling point of the next generation iPads, so it is likely to upgrade the current 5 megapixel iSight camera to an 8 megapixel camera with a larger aperture, similar to what the company has included in the iPhone 5S.

Still, no word as yet from Apple regarding the capabilities of its upcoming tablets. The company is rumored to unveil both the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 on October 15th. Recent reports suggest that the Retina iPad mini probably won’t be released this year due to supply constraints. So at this point in time, it can’t be said for sure exactly when the announcement will take place.
