Rockstar is working hard to resolve GTA Online hiccups

Like any widely popular online-based game content, Grand Theft Auto Online has had a problematic launch with a plethora of issues, bugs, and errors leaving many gamers unable to join their friends in the open multiplayer world.

Rockstar has made it clear that they are well aware of the situation–most likely thanks to their encouraged open line of communication via e-mail and forum feedback–and they are working hard on fixes to all of the problems at hand.

The studio has posted an official GTA Online Launch Status Update*which lists many of the common problems and hiccups that gamers are facing, including such widely encountered errors as the “Rockstar cloud servers are unavailable” message (which doesn’t allow you to save your data) to being randomly dropped from games due to “timeout”.

Below is a list of the errors that Rockstar is aware of concerning GTA Online:

  • Occasional “Rockstar Cloud Servers Unavailable” error message

  • Freezing sometimes while loading into first race in GTAO with “waiting for other players” on the screen

  • Intermittent “Failed to Host a GTA Online Session” error messages

  • Race Corona (start area, marker) occasionally not showing up for first race

  • Errors saying “Timed out when matchmaking for a compatible GTA Online Session to join”

  • Occasional “Failed to start job” errors

  • General issues with the Social Club site and Social Club features (slow loading, failed logins, emails not arriving, etc). For more information on Social Club status, please see:*http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/...cles/200357093

Rockstar did indeed inform gamers via regular updates that the GTA Online launch would be a rocky endeavor, and one could only guess at the extreme congestion on their online servers.*If you’re intent on jumping into the online world in order to rack up your Reputation Points and build up your character, hopefully you won’t face the dreaded cloud server error that makes all your progress null.

Rockstar might have things running smoothly sometime later today, but that estimation might prove to be problematic during the prime gaming hours–this is when most people get off work and jump on Xbox LIVE or PSN–as the servers will be pushed even farther.

In any case, Rockstar will continue to inform the gaming community with regular updates via Twitter and Facebook on the status of GTA Online.*While it is playable in its current form, you’re apt to run into a roadblock in the form of an error, bug or glitch so it might be best just to stick with story mode for the time being.

In the meantime be sure to check out our recent coverage on what GTA V‘s massive online mode has to offer, including crew hierarchies, missions and jobs, and even recreational activities.
