Reviews say Samsung’s Smartwatch is catastrophically underwhelming, but the company sells it on TV in all kinds of retro cool.
For those wondering where Samsung got the idea for a Smartwatch — a device that has*thus far been panned by critics — it’s most recent set of TV commercials gives a pretty definite answer: science fiction.
As designers of the first Nokia cell phone were reportedly inspired by Captain Kirk’s communicator, Samsung contends a similar narrative with its Smartwatch: the futuristic gadget from science fiction lore ranging from The Jetsons, to Knight Rider and Star Trek is finally real.
Unfortunately, the usefulness of a the Galaxy Gear has proven to be at best marginal compared to the fancy gizmos seen in the aforementioned sci-fi shows.
