There were rumors circulating last week about the possibility of personal pickup for iPhone 5S being allowed once again. Apple has now resumed its in-store pickup service for its latest smartphone.
Apple didn’t offer pre-orders for the iPhone 5S, like it did for the iPhone 5C. It was believed that this was due to short supply. However, when the iPhones were released on September 20, Apple allowed customers to reserve a iPhone 5S unit for pickup from their nearest Apple Retail Store. The service was only live for a day, Apple pulled it without an explanation. Some believed that the service had actually gone live ahead of time due to a glitch, while others claimed that perhaps the company had done this due to supply constraints.
Nevertheless, the iPhone 5S in-store pickup service is now live once again. Customers can reserve a unit to pick up from a retail store. In order to do that, the unit must be reserved through Apple’s online store or through the Apple Store app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. There are no extra charges for utilizing this service.
Even though the service is live, iPhone 5S inventory at retail stores still remains thin. Customers will be able to search Apple Stores close to them and see if they have the unit they want in stock. Through the online store, Apple is already offering an estimated shipping date in the first week of October. So those who aren’t able to find the unit they want in stock, will have to still wait for their iPhone 5S in the mail.
