Prototype iPad Mini 3 with fingerprint sensor spotted

It hasn’t been long since Apple released the second generation iPad mini and rumors about its successor, the third generation iPad mini, have already started surfacing.

A lot of things were rumored about the second generation iPad mini. Analysts, leakers and the public in general were divided over the possibility of the tablet coming with a Retina display. In the end, it did come with a Retina display. However, it was also rumored that perhaps the iPad mini 2 will also come with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, like the one if the iPhone 5S. That didn’t happen though, and if this latest rumor is to be believed, Apple might incorporate the sensor in the third generation iPad mini.

Called iPad mini 3 at this point in time, a picture of a purported prototype has surfaced online. It is unclear where this picture has originated from and if the prototype is at any of Apple’s manufacturers in Asia. The company has reportedly been testing various prototypes of its tablets, including a large 12.9 inch iPad. It is obviously too soon to say if this really is the next generation iPad mini, which really isn’t until at least a whole year.

The authenticity of this picture can not be verified at this point in time, but it doesn’t come as a surprise that iPad mini 3 rumors have already started circulating. Apple is expected to shake up its release schedules in 2014, and if that is the case, perhaps the fingerprint sensor touting iPad mini just might see the light of day in the future.
