Android 4.4 KitKat OTA rolling out to HTC One Google Play Edition

The Google Play Edition variant of the HTC One has begun receiving an update to Android 4.4 KitKat.

The update comes less than a week after Google released Android 4.4 for the Nexus 4, once again showing the search giant’s dedication to quickly updating Google Play Edition devices to newer versions of the OS. The OTA update weighs in at*305MB, and should be reaching all users over the course of the next few days (you can do a manual check for its availability from the Settings » About phone » System updates.)

Android 4.4 brings in some noticeable changes and features, including redesigned status and navigation bar icons, reduced RAM usage across the OS, an immersive mode that allows apps to use the full screen for displaying content, in-built printing and NFC payment support, and more. Also included is ART, a new runtime and an alternative to the currently used Dalvik for improved performance, though it’s only for developer testing at the moment.

For those unwilling to wait for the update to arrive on their device, the OTA file can be downloaded from this link and installed manually through recovery.
