Apple captured 76 percent of Japan's smartphone market in October

Continuing its winning streak in the Land of the Rising Sun, Apple’s new iPhones accounted for 76 percent of all smartphone sales in Japan this October.

Only recently it was reported that Apple has quite literally struck gold in the Japan, it already holds 37 percent of the country’s smartphone market and 50 percent of the tablet market. Japan also happens to be one of five regions where Apple’s operating profit grew in the past fiscal year. Its margins in Japan are 15 percent higher than anywhere else in the world. In the past fiscal year alone, Apple’s sales in Japan have bumped up by almost 30 percent.

The reason why Apple is having so much success in the country is due to its brand value, it is viewed like one of the most sought after luxury brands. Which is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to hear that both the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C accounted for 76 percent of all smartphone sales in Japan this October. This figure was aided by NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s largest mobile carrier that started carrying the iPhones this year. 61 percent of the sales generated in October came from NTT DoCoMo.

Compare the success Apple is having in Japan with other markets in the region and one can really see just how much Apple’s brand value has climbed in the Land of the Rising Sun. It doesn’t appear to be diminishing anytime soon.
