One of Apple’s oldest employees and top iOS engineering vice president, Henri Lamiraux, has left the company after serving it for more than 23 years.
Lamiraux updated his LinkedIn profile a few days back confirming his departure from Cupertino, though he is said to have retired a couple of weeks ago. Apparently he had decided that iOS 7 was going to be his last release. The firmware was released on September 18, and is one of the greatest updates Apple has ever made to its mobile operating system. There have been no rumors of Lamiraux being pushed out due to a conflict, he is said to be very respected within the company’s ranks.
His job entailed looking over the development of applications that come bundled with iOS firmware, feature distribution to customers, bug fixing processes, and managing feature implementation across the OS.*Lamiraux was one of the influential VPs that worked on iOS, he is said to have been a “top lieutenant” to Scott Forstall, working with VPs of wireless software, testing and design.*Lamiraux started working at Apple as a Mac software engineer nearly 23 years ago and has since then worked his way up the totem pole, managing both Mac and iOS software during certain points of his illustrious career.*He was actually one of the very few people who worked on the original iPhone project.
His departure, for whatever reason, is unlikely to have any noticeable effect on iOS software, at least for users. For Apple, its without a doubt a great loss of talent.
