Latest figures indicate that Apple’s iPad was overtaken in revenues by Android tablets this quarter.

Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, a global financial services expert, reveals in a research note to investors that in Q3, 2013, Android tablets brought in 46.2 percent revenue share, overtaking the iPad’s 45.6 percent share.*Its equally as impressive that despite the onslaught from Android tablets, the iPad has been holding its ground, even though competition mounts with each passing day.
The iPad has faced tough competition from several Android tablets in particular, Google’s Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 as well as Samsung’s high-end tablets have all given the iPad and iPad mini a run for their money. Earlier this year Google released a revamped version of the Nexus 7 tablet which goes up head to head against the Retina iPad mini that Apple released just recently. Apple’s new iPads have been performing well in the market, collectively they might be able to bring in solid figures if the company is able to solve the myriad of production related problems.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the coming year. Samsung is expected to make a drastic push into the tablet market next year, apparently it is gearing up to ship as many as 100 million tablets next year. With all of those units potentially running Google’s Android OS, this gap might be extended after all.
