Did Google just 'accidentally' reveal the Nexus 8 tablet? Signs point to maybe

It’s no longer a mystery in many ways smaller, more portable tablets are doing better than “full-sized” 10-inchers, at least as far as the Android landscape is concerned, but what is the perfect size after all? Is it seven inches a la Google’s Nexus 7?

Or is it somewhere between 7.9 and 9, where Apple’s iPad mini is currently competing against LG’s G Pad 8.3 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire HDX 8.9? Here’s a crazy idea, what if ultimately there’s no “perfect” size, different people have different tastes and therefore diversity is the key to success?

That’s definitely one way to look at it and it seems it may be Google’s preferred standpoint. There’ve been whispers of a Nexus 8 being prepped to join the 7 and 10-inch members of the family for quite some time and, looky here, the rumors are intensifying.

A suspicious marketing photo pretty clearly showing a tab that’s not the N7 or the N10 has been spotted in the “Apps & Entertainment” section of the official Android website and, though some say it’s just the result of botched Photoshop work, I say there’s a good chance Big G has decided to throw us a bone.

Quite a juicy bone too, somewhat similar to the now infamous Nexus 5 sighting in that otherwise unexciting Android 4.4 KitKat video promo.

Granted, there’s no possible way to tell the size of a gadget from only one pic, especially of this nature, but again, we’re not dealing with a Nexus 10 here (too small) or an N7 (too thin bezels). So it most definitely is a tab measuring 8 inches or thereabouts.

Perhaps the V510 is indeed a spanking new Nexus built on LG G Pad’s skeleton. Or maybe this is something along the lines of that Asus-made Nexus 8 rendered back in May. In any case, it sounds like we’re in for a heated end of fall and beginning of winter. Can you feel the excitement in the air?
