Microsoft to rename Nokia Oyj to Microsoft Mobile Oy post Nokia acquisition

A letter sent out to suppliers has revealed Microsoft’s intentions to rename Nokia’s mobile devices division.

Microsoft plans to rename Nokia Oyj to Microsoft Mobile Oy after it completes the acquisition of Nokia’s devices and services business, according to a letter sent to suppliers and leaked by*Nokiapoweruser.

Microsoft Mobile Oy will be a fully-owned Microsoft subsidiary and will most likely be its mobile devices arm and*handle production of smartphones and tablets. “Please note that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy,” noted Nokia in the letter.*

The leaked document also mentions that*Nokia intends*to follow the current terms and conditions it has with suppliers, pertaining to businesses that will remain with Nokia after the acquisition, namely Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN), HERE location technologies and services, and a brand-new unit called “Advanced Technologies.”

In addition to becoming a supplier for Microsoft Mobile Oy, we appreciate that you might also remain a supplier to the continuing businesses of*Nokia*(i.e., NSN, HERE or Advanced Technologies) after the close of the transaction between Microsoft and*Nokia*Devices and Services.*Nokia*will communicate separately any changes in invoicing methods and addresses before the close of this transaction.

The $7.2 billion deal that will see Nokia’s handset division become a part of Microsoft is expected to close by April 25. Nokia’s*handset business is expected to run as usual under the Microsoft Mobile umbrella, though Microsoft will likely be looking at licensing the Nokia brand for use on upcoming smartphones, as “Microsoft Lumia” devices would have quite a tough time luring*consumers in most markets.
