LG to launch the G3 and G Watch this quarter

LG is going to launch its QHD flagship handset along with its first Android Wear smartwatch later this quarter.

In a press released that followed its earnings,**LG announced that it is looking to continue its strong form in the second quarter “with the release of the flagship LG G3 smartphone” and the G Watch later this quarter.

The LG G3 has been leaked often and will feature a QHD screen, along with volume and power buttons at the back of the device. LG has started the trend of including the power buttons at the back with the G2, and while the button placement was an interesting choice, it was easy to access the buttons with your index finger. This, however, was not the case on the 6-inch G Flex, which also had the power button at the back. The larger size meant that you usually had to reach to access the button.

The G3 rumors indicate that the device will feature a 5.5-inch screen, so it remains to be seen whether the buttons at the back are easy to access. Other details on the G3 include a quad-core Snapdragon 801, 2 GB RAM, 16 MP camera and Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

In addition to the G3, LG announced that the G Watch will also be available in the second quarter. The device is slated for a launch sometime in the month of June, so it is feasible that both the G3 and G Watch will be announced simultaneously. *The G Watch is estimated to cost around $275 (199 Euro).

LG sold 12.3 million smartphones during the first three months of 2014, which is a significant 19 percent increase year-on-year. LG also mentioned that it has sold LTE handset sales were at an all-time high, with the manufacturer selling 5 million LTE-enabled handsets this quarter. Revenues from the mobile division were at $3.19 billion, with net profit at $86.62 million.
