Apple is reportedly going to release two iPhones this year, both with larger displays than the existing flagship.
This might seem like one of those usual stories where some unreliable source from China “confirms” the changes Apple is to make in its next generation iPhone, that’s partly true, but this time around the information comes from a major publication. The Wall Street Journal has ran a story claiming to have heard from people with knowledge of Apple’s plans that the company is going to launch two iPhones this year, an iPhone 6 with a 4.5 inch display and another iPhone with display larger than 5 inches.
According to the publication, both of these iPhones will be released in the second quarter of 2014. The 4.5 inch model has reportedly been prepared for mass production, whereas the one with display larger than 5 inches is said to be in “preliminary development.” Both models are said to have design similar to the existing flagship, the iPhone 5S, as well as the aluminium and glass materials used for its shell.
Interestingly, the report also claims that Apple has made up its mind to discontinue the plastic body that was introduced with the iPhone 5C. Ever since the smartphone was launched, there have been countless rumors of its disappointing sales, primarily because customers prefer the premium build quality that’s been offered by the iPhone ever since it adopted aluminium and glass as the core build materials. Both new iPhones will reportedly be launched at the same time, like Apple did last year with the current iPhone lineup.
