Rumor has it that Apple is going to release a new set-top box in the first quarter of 2014.
All the rumors concerning Apple’s TV offering hint towards a full fledged HDTV set, but that might not be happening until at least two years. Several analysts have weighed in on the possibility of Apple launching a HDTV set, most of them believe that the company won’t venture in this market for a few years. For now, it will stick to its tried and tested set-top box, the Apple TV. A new rumor claims that the much awaited 2014 Apple TV update is going to be released within this quarter.
Apparently the new set-top box is further along in the test stage, and that it may be ready for mass production within the next few weeks. While technical specifications have not been revealed as yet, it is believed that the 2014 Apple TV update will come with a new operating system that would be based on iOS like it always is. Also rumored are new input methods such as motion control, but its unclear at this point whether the new input methods will make it in the new Apple TV.
A “Game Store” is also reportedly being developed for the set-top box, which will contain games specifically developed for the Apple TV. No information about pricing and availability has been revealed as yet.
