India is the third market to get Samsung’s curved screen concept device.
India is an extremely happening smartphone market these days, especially for devices in the budget segment, but it looks like Samsung thinks the country is also important when it comes to testing out costly smartphones*with unique designs. Samsung has launched the Galaxy Note Edge in India, making it the third market after the US and South Korea to get the curved Galaxy Note 4 variant.
The Note Edge has been priced at*INR 64,900 (around $1,020), a high price that doesn’t look out of place given the USP of the phablet. The Galaxy Note Edge comes with*a 5.6-inch display that curves to the right side, offering a secondary screen of sorts with features*like quick access to apps and other functions, always-on display for alerts like social network messages, missed calls and other notifications; Samsung also offers a developer SDK, meaning the functionality of the curved display can be further enhanced by third-party developers.
Other than the curved display, the Galaxy Note Edge is pretty much identical to the Galaxy Note 4, with specs including a 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable internal storage, a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, 3,000mAh battery, and heart rate and fingerprint sensors. It also comes with the S Pen stylus, and runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box, with an update to Lollipop expected in the coming weeks.
Samsung hasn’t said which other markets will see an official launch of the Galaxy Note Edge, though some European nations are expected to get it next. In the Indian market, the phone will be available in black and white from select retailers in the first week of January.
