The next ZenFone could have a dual camera setup for improved imaging capabilities.*
CES is less than two weeks away, and ASUS seems to be gearing up to launch the next device in its ZenFone lineup at the event. The Taiwanese manufacturer has released two short videos that tease the upcoming ZenFone in an extremely cryptic way. There’s no way to tell what the device will carry in terms of features, but some of the images suggest a dual camera setup will be one of the highlights.
HTC was the first (at least in recent memory) to put dual cameras on a device, and like Huawei, ASUS seems to have warmed up to the idea of making use of two sensors to improve what a phone’s camera is capable of. However, while HTC simply used the secondary camera to capture depth information for offering users the option to edit the focus in a photo after it has been taken, the next ZenFone will likely (read hopefully) use both sensors to produce a larger, higher quality image, similar to what Huawei has done with the Honor 6 Plus.
ASUS’ trio of well priced mid-range*ZenFones was a major success, especially in emerging markets, and it looks like the company could be aiming at making the next iteration a high-end device. More details on the new ZenFone will likely show up in the days leading up to CES, allowing us to paint a better picture of what ASUS is up to.
