The Galaxy J1 could be the Korean manufacturer’s answer to fierce competition in the budget smartphone market.
Following the Galaxy A and E series of smartphones, Samsung is reportedly working on the Galaxy J lineup to take on the low-end Android market. Specifications of the Galaxy J1, the first device in the new lineup, have been leaked by Samsung fansite SamMobile, hinting at the company’s plans to offer consumers a respectable smartphone package at a low price.
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy J1 will be similar to the Galaxy Y, an entry-level device that was a huge hit for Samsung a couple of years ago. However, it’s possible the J1 won’t be priced as low, as the phone is said to come with LTE connectivity and a 64-bit quad-core processor (the*Marvell PXA1908, clocked at 1.2GHz). Other specs are expected to include a 4.3-inch WVGA (800×480) display, a 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a 1,850mAh battery.
The Galaxy J1 will launch with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box, and there’s no guarantee that it will be updated to Android 5.0. Lollipop. It’s unclear when Samsung plans to make the Galaxy J1 official; the company will likely take its time before doing so, especially if it intends to make the J1 good enough to challenge the impressive low-end offerings from the competition currently available on the market.
