Motorola pushing Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the original Moto G

The original Moto G is getting the latest version of the OS*before many of the latest Android smartphones.

The second-generation Moto X and Moto G were the first Motorola smartphones to be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop since both devices are the latest in Motorola’s smartphone lineup. However, the ex-Google company isn’t forgetting the phone that allowed it to own the budget smartphone market – Motorola has begun updating the original Moto G to Lollipop, with the update starting its rollout in India.

The Lollipop update for the 2013 Moto G is essentially the same as the software that rolled out to the 2014 Moto G, bringing over features like Google’s new Material Design, lockscreen and heads-up notifications, visually enhanced multitasking, improved*performance and battery life, a do not disturb mode, Smart Lock for keeping the phone unlocked when a connected wearable is nearby, redesigned status bar, and a flashlight toggle in the quick toggles menu.

The update is currently available only on the dual SIM variant of the Moto G in India, but we can trust Motorola to be extremely quick in pushing out Lollipop to other markets. Owners of the device*can search for the update manually from the Settings » About phone » System updates menu, or just wait patiently for the update’s notification to show up in their status bar.
