New dirt on the unannounced but no doubt imminent plastic-made HTC M8 Ace has just surfaced via two rock-solid sources, leak master evleaks and China’s FCC-like Tenaa device certification center.
Although Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and HTC’s One M8 are already around and up for grabs, the battle of the Android giants is yet to begin. Both flagships should get premium “Prime” spin-offs before long, not to mention LG’s stunning G3 is literally days ahead.
But what if a lesser phone constructed of “chintzy” polycarbonate will make the three eat its dust with unbeatable bang for buck? Enter HTC’s M8 Ace, a Galaxy S5 match hardware-wise, according to insiders, priced at a measly $480 or so.
Allegedly photographed from behind and showcasing delicious curves a few days ago, the Ace has earned Tenaa’s blessing over in China, meaning there’s no stopping it now to see daylight around those parts.
Unlikely to carry the One moniker, the big guy isn’t a steep departure from “classic” One designs, though it does go a little overboard with the BoomSound speaker grills. Fingers crossed that means improved sound surround and everything.
The real aesthetical bombshell however isn’t so obvious, but evleaks dropped it in a note on Twitter: M8 Ace’s usable screen real estate may measure “just” 4.7 inches. That’s on par with 2013’s One (M7) and 0.3 inches smaller than M8’s glass.
It also helps make the speculated price tag more plausible. Particularly if it sports 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution. But our best bet remains 1,920 x 1,080, since anything less would severely hurt the gizmo’s bid to dethrone the GS5.
Either way, the secondary rear camera is near certainly gone, and hopefully, so are Ultrapixels. Snapdragon 801 stays, likewise for the 2 GB RAM, whereas battery size should drop a smidge, maybe to 2,500 mAh. ETA? A Taiwan publication says June 3, albeit that’s a little too specific to be trusted. Let’s compromise and say early to mid-June.
