HP’s new quad-core tablet costs less than $100

HP breaches the $100 price point with its new HP 7 Plus.

With the high-end tablet space crowded and competitive, many vendors are pushing out slates in the low-to-mid range. HP is no stranger to the space with its $150-priced HP 8 tablet, released earlier this year. Now, HP is taking things below the $100 level with its new $99.99 HP 7 Plus.

The HP 7 Plus is powered by one of MediaTek’s Chinese rivals Allwinner. The SoC itself is clocked at 1 GHz and runs on a ARM Cortex A31 A7. The device’s display is 7-inches and has a 1024 x 600 resolution. It also has 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 2-megapixel rear camera, 0.3-megapixel front camera, 2800 mAh battery and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Granted the tablet isn’t anything special, but it might be a hit at the $99 price point considering the developing world’s appetite for low cost mobile electronics.
