Samsung’s Galaxy Grand Lite will be called the Galaxy Grand Neo

The Galaxy Grand Neo will be a downgraded version of the Galaxy Grand 2 and will launch sometime during the first quarter

Samsung will market the Galaxy Grand Lite as the Galaxy Grand Neo. The device cleared FCC certification last week, and should see an official unveil at the MWC. The Galaxy Grand Neo is a less powerful version of the Galaxy Grand 2 and will likely be available for sale in the U.S.

The Galaxy Grand Neo will feature a 5-inch screen with an 800 x 480 resolution, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, 5MP camera at the back and a 2,100 mAh battery. It will come with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box. The hardware on the Galaxy Grand Neo is decidedly lacklustre, and Samsung’s decision to include a WVGA screen on a handset in 2014 is bewildering.

Samsung has managed to sell a lot of handsets like this over the last year, but it remains to be seen whether it can continue to do so in 2014. In the low-end segment, we now have the Moto G, which is a stellar handset for the price it is offered in, and there are a bevy of manufacturers that offer much better handsets at the $250 segment, like Blu Mobiles.
