The long, agonizing wait for the Xiaomi Redmi Note is finally over for Indian smartphone buyers. Xiaomi today launched the Redmi Note in the country and surprisingly there are two variants that have been launched. The first is the cheaper 3G variant and the second is the 4G variant that not many were expecting to see in Indian market. It is also the first 4G capable smartphone launched by Xiaomi in India.
The 3G variant has been priced at INR 8,999 while the 4G variant carries a price-tag of INR 9,999. The fantastic pricing makes the Redmi Note 4G the cheapest 4G LTE smartphone available in India currently. The first Redmi Note sale will commence in about a week from today and as with the previous Xiaomi handsets, Flipkart will be the sole retailer to offer the device in the country. You would need to register for the flash sale on Flipkart to be able to purchase the device when it goes on sale next week.
Apart from the connectivity differences, the chipset is also different on the Redmi Note and Redmi Note 4G. The Redmi Note uses the Mediatek MTK6592 8-core 1.7GHz chipset with ARM Mali-450 GPU whereas the Redmi Note 4G uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM 8928 1.6GHz quad-core chipset with Adreno 305 GPU. The rest of the specs are similar on both. You get a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720 HD IPS display with 267PPI, 2GB RAM, 8GB ROM with microSD card slot for further memory expansion, 13MP rear camera with f2.2 aperture lens and 1080p video recording, 5MP front camera with HD video recording, and a 3100mAh battery. Both run Xiaomi’s custom MIUI user-interface but the Redmi Note has the newer MIUI version that is based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The 3G variant is running on the Android 4.3 Jellybean version of MIUI.
