InSpace attempts to 3D-ify all things digital

Hanging out in virtual space is a lot like staring at a piece of paper, except we are able to freely manipulate objects and content on the canvas without having to erase and then redrawing things.* The question is now, why haven’t we progressed enough to be able to move around our virtual living room in 3D?

At the moment, we have engines that drive 3D environments in things like video games, but do we have one that can convert anything we see on a computer screen into a 3D space?* There’s probably something out there, but as far as mainstream there’s really not much for the average consumer to work with.

This is where inSpace’s visual ‘media hub’ system comes in.* The small company is attempting to revamp the user experience of conventional interfaces by implementing a system that gives us the perception that we’re browsing and moving around in 3D.* For simplicity sake, it’s sort of like turning all your computer’s elements into a 3D game.

InSpace’s ambition is extremely high considering the fact that people are still trying to get used to using touchscreens instead of a keyboard with tactile feedbacks.

According to the system creators, they see the technology as something that will add on to virtual reality as it progresses by creating a “richer, clearer, and more advanced” interface.* InSpace also claims that they’re close to being granted a patent that deals with the “broad navigation paradigm of hierarchical 3D space.”

Will we begin to see tech companies use 3D interfaces instead of 2D’s on their latest gadgets?* Perhaps, but ultimately inSpace’s retrofit of the conventional user interface is a sign that virtual reality will encompass many areas of our digital lifestyle.* It’s just a matter of how tech companies go about adapting the technology to their products.

InSpace has beta registration up, feel free to sign up and try it out!
