That is, if Apple ever launches the so called iPad Pro.
There have been a lot of rumors this year about Apple working on a significantly larger iPad. But at last month’s event the company only unveiled updated versions of the iPad Air and iPad mini. It didn’t mention plans of any such tablet in the future and that’s why so far it can not be said for sure whether or not a large iPad is on the cards.
The rumors have not ceased though. It is still believed that a larger iPad, presumably with a 12.2-inch display, is in the pipeline and that it will be called iPad Pro once it is released. Previously this tablet was believed to tout a 12.9-inch display but recent reports suggest otherwise, and point towards the possibility of a 12.2-inch display.
Latest scuttlebutt*points us towards the possibility of Apple discontinuing the iPad mini lineup once the iPad Pro hits the market.*Analysts already believe that the new 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus is going to hurt sales of Apple’s smaller tablet, and when the iPad Pro enters at the top, those who want a small screen can simply go with an*iPad Air model.
So on paper it would make sense for Apple to kill the iPad mini because it wouldn’t fit in the lineup. Even though the company doesn’t break down sales figures by device, over the past quarters it has been reported that iPad mini hasn’t really been selling that well. Perhaps that, coupled with the new direction for the iPad, might make a compelling case for Apple to discontinue the iPad mini.
