If you’re one of the many few that are wondering why Microsoft chose to dub its latest OS Windows 10 then here’s perhaps an answer that may enlighten and give you a little chuckle.
A Redditor claiming to be a Microsoft dev has posted an explanation as to why we have Windows 10 and not 9.* Taking a look at the snip of code that Windows use to identify itself, we can see the devs didn’t take into account that there will be a Windows version that will continue with the 9x scheme (i.e. 95 & 98).* Hence, if the latest OS was called Windows 9, it would run into a bit of trouble identifying itself.
Of course we don’t really know why Microsoft chose Windows 10, but it’s always fun do a little Easter Egg hunting.* At the end of the day, however, what most people are looking at is how Windows 10 has been reworked to remedy many of the problems that users didn’t like about Windows 8.
