Samsung did its very best to steal the thunder of Apple’s new, jumbo-sized iPhones, but ultimately, the Galaxy Note 4 will get a late start to the race, which is bound to critically harm its chances of winning or at least finishing a close second.
For a second there, it looked like Sammy could go from announcement to commercial release in under 30 days. But alas, while US pre-orders for the Note 4 get underway tomorrow, on the 19th, actual shipping is slated to begin on the 17th… next month.
Of course, the world doesn’t revolve around America, no matter what Obama says. And at least in Korea, rumor is mobile tech consumers will be able to bask in the phablet’s 5.7-inch Quad HD glory as soon as September 26.
That’s mere gossip, mind you, so handle with caution, especially as limited initial inventory is a near guarantee.
Back to the land of the free and home of the brave, let’s mention launch dates may vary from carrier to carrier. Pricing too, although it’s a safe bet to predict AT&T, Sprint and Verizon will charge $299.99 with two-year contracts across the board. T-Mobile? Between $700 and $800 split in 24 even monthly payments, presumably.
Highway robbery, you cry out? Keep in mind the iPhone 6 Plus is just as lavish, and in many ways, not nearly as impressive. Also, we’d like to remind you of an unconventional little handset called Galaxy Note Edge, which is tipped to cost around the equivalent of $1,140 in China.
That’s unlikely to convert as miserably in the US of A, but it’s still possible the “edgy” phablet will yield a recommended retail price of roughly $1,000 contract-free. Soo, $400 with carrier agreements then? $350 maybe? That’s nuts either way. And it almost makes the standard Note 4 look like a budget device. Almost.
