Already? Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors call for 'new vision', mouth-watering specs

While Samsung is believed to still have one or two tricks up its sleeve for 2014 releases, the Koreans are undoubtedly preoccupied first and foremost with the development of a game-changing next-gen Galaxy S.

Not overly dazzled by the half-metal Galaxy Note 4? Drawing a blank when thinking of the Galaxy S5? There’s always a next time for perennially busy device manufacturers like Samsung to knock your socks off.

And this next time isn’t even that far away on the horizon, with inside sources already in a position to confirm (some) preliminary specifications. Keep in mind we have no idea if we should trust these “insiders”, and a lot can still happen between now and S6’s launch, even if their intel is legit.

By the way, there’s no word on release timing yet, so until we get some additional scoop, we’ll assume Samsung will bring the S6 to light exactly one year after its predecessor’s intro. Namely, in February 2015.

Of course, since the GS5 is underperforming at the box-office, and Note 4 sales are far from impressive, it’s entirely possible we’ll see the next-gen iPhone “killer” break cover a little earlier. Perhaps at CES, in January.

Either way, a few technical tidbits look set in stone. For one thing, there’s no going back from Quad HD screen resolution to Full HD. Nor is there any room to go up at the moment. The million-dollar question is what kind of real estate is Samsung planning to put 2,560 x 1,440 pixels on? The S5 only gained 0.1 inch on the S4, so following tradition, the S6 should be endowed with a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED panel.

But that’s just a guess. Not a guess, at least not according to Sam Mobile, is the choice of processors. Yes, plural, as there will be separate Snapdragon and Exynos variants once again. The former beefed up by an 810, and the latter powered by an Exynos 7420. Both chips support 64-bit processing, and rock eight cores each. The difference being the 7420 is allegedly a “true” octa-core unit.

Codenamed Project Zero, the Samsung Galaxy S6 could mark a radical change in “vision”, according to the same Sam Mobile tipsters. No idea exactly what that means, but a full-metal chassis seems a no-brainer beginning for the new vision following Galaxy A3 and A5’s announcements.

The rest of the specifics are mostly unclear, bar storage options. Apparently, the 16 GB model will be ditched at last, and 32, 64 and 128 GB configurations will be offered. An upgrade beyond 3 gigs of RAM is unlikely, and the rear-facing camera is to tout either a 16 or 20 megapixel sensor. Plus, optical image stabilization.

Finally, selfie addicts will have their needs catered to, although 5 MP front cams are starting to feel a little underwhelming, with HTC’s “Eye” on the growing target audience.
