Trouble in paradise perchance?
Much virtual ink has been spilled over allegations of iPhone 6 Plus fragility to the point the uber-slim but aluminum-made 5.5 incher apparently got ugly deformations after being carried in the pockets of standard-issue skinny jeans.
Apple hurried to put down the damaging Bendgate scandal, and claimed an insignificant number of complaints were filed, but the echoes of the public embarrassment are still haunting the iPhone makers.
Naturally, one’s loss is someone else’s gain, and many reckoned that someone else might be Samsung. Only a string of predicaments seem to stick to the Galaxy Note 4 like glue, plaguing the Android phablet’s popularity and shot at glory as well.
First, there was the problem of the disappointing turnaround. Although they actually introduced the Note 4 prior to Apple’s iPhone 6 keynote event, Samsung’s powers that be, engineers and component suppliers were incapable of pulling off a similarly swift launch.
So we waited, and waited, and waited, until the 5.7 incher went on sale at last… in Korea. After which we waited some more. And now, just as the new Note was supposed to see daylight on British shores, “amazing interest and demand” warranted an unforeseen delay.

The latest UK ETA is October 17, i.e. the exact same day as a number of Western European countries, plus the US. Now who wants to bet we’ll be treated to another setback in a week’s time? Or, more likely, a limited release seeing all stock wiped out in hours.
A separate front where Samsung needs to worry is build quality, as “Gapgate” was never settled. Not in a satisfactory way, that is. And believe it or not, the Android soldier could have a Bendgate part two to be anxious about.
Wait, but didn’t Sammy demonstrate the toughness of its flagship in not one, but two videos putting the Note 4 through a dozen of examinations, a scientific bend test included? Yes, but as it turns out, when tested the non-scientific way, the jumbo-sized smartphone does curve… a little. Under a great deal of pressure.
Ironically, the Note 4 bends approximately in the same spot as the iPhone 6 Plus, albeit it can recover its normal shape by pressing its body the opposite way. All in all, we don’t think there’s any risk the handheld will crack randomly in your trou pockets, but the disturbing aspect is the spanking new, ultra-high-end, uber-pricey gadget fared nowhere near as well as its aging predecessor in Unbox Therapy’s bend test.
