The clamshell device is as feature-packed as Samsung’s 2014 Galaxy S flagship.
Samsung launched the Galaxy Golden in late 2013, a phone with a clamshell construction that was launched in select markets. In addition to its archaic form factor, the Galaxy Golden also featured*rather mid-range specs, including a dual-core processor that could never win any awards for raw performance. Well, it looks like Samsung is changing things around with the Galaxy Golden 2, pictures and specifications of which have leaked via a user manual and Chinese regulation authority TENAA.
The Galaxy Golden looks almost exactly the same as its predecessor, with its dual displays (one each on both sides of the upper body) and golden accents. However, in terms of hardware, the Golden 2 is right up there with the Galaxy S5,*featuring a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and 16GB of internal storage. The displays have also been updated to HD resolution and are slightly bigger at 3.9-inches, and the front-facing camera is now a 3.7-megapixel unit, like the recently launched Galaxy Note 4.
Those are some solid specs for such a compact device, and they might just help Samsung sell a few units of its latest clamshell phone. At this point, a launch in China is all but confirmed; the original Galaxy Golden was quite a costly affair, so it remains to be seen if sense prevails at Samsung headquarters this time around.
