HTC has two selfie experts in the pipeline: Desire Eye and One M8 Eye

It’s a done deal, both the mid-range Desire and high-end One HTC smartphone families will be receiving selfie-centric refreshes before long.

As soon as HTC started to tease October 8’s “double exposure” press event in New York City, we immediately thought of a One M8 take with an improved front-facing camera as the prime suspect for a glitzy unveil.

Only the sly Taiwanese diverted our attention to give a weird-looking GoPro action camera competitor some unexpected exposure, then gradually revealing everything there is to know about a separate selfie champ, the plastic-constructed Desire Eye.

Naturally, we began doubting our own shadows, and the so-called M8 Eye fell off our radar. Was it never a thing, or did we jump to conclusions filing it under fabrications? Based on reliable data tracking Indian imports, the latter seems to hold good.

Zauba has irrefutable paperwork proving both the Desire Eye and One M8 Eye entered the country to set the stage for their imminent releases, the latter mere days ago in a whopping 288 unit batch. As usual, the import authority lists pricing estimations for the two devices, making it clear the Desire will be a smidge more affordable, despite rocking pretty top-notch specs.

Of course, these are little more than guesstimates, so they could go either way once the phones become available. North or south of $350 and $440, that is.

Interestingly, just as this information came to light, HTC took to Twitter to leave a couple of cryptic messages hinting at what’s to come less than 48 hours from now. One of the two tweets uses a nifty animated pic to confirm the One M8 has a spin-off of sorts on the way, albeit there’s a chance they’re actually building up a One M8 Max rather than an M8 Eye.

Confusing stuff, we know, and it certainly doesn’t help that one of the two 13 MP front cam-toting handhelds is rumored to exclusively target Asian audiences. Which one? Your guess is as good as ours.
