Here she is, in all her splendor, adorned with a powerhouse selfie-friendly 13 megapixel front-facing camera.
You may groan, bitch and moan as much as you like, but the selfie fad isn’t dying down. Not with Sony, Nokia, Samsung and HTC focused on catering to the specific needs of attention seekers with narcissistic personalities.
Of course, progress is welcomed in whatever form we can get it, and in all honesty, front cam evolution was fairly stagnant for way too long. I mean, even the most radical selfie haters have to admit 2 MP doesn’t cut it anymore for so-called top-level flagship devices.
Besides, taking flattering pictures of yourself is hardly the only use case of a capable front snapper, as video calls no doubt require a quality reboot of sorts. Enter the upcoming Desire Eye, never confirmed by HTC but no longer a secret thanks to @evleaks heir @upleaks and an HTC-specialized Russian tipster.
The former may have got the ball rolling before the week-end, but HTCFamily.ru adds the optimal piece to the puzzle to give the rumor the distinct whiff of credibility. A certain dose of skepticism remains recommended, however the leaked press renders starring Desire Eye’s entire face feel extremely plausible.
Plasticky, colorful yet not tacky, the big guy looks like a budget take on the all-aluminum One M8, save for the greatly improved 13 MP, yes, 13 MP wide-angle selfie-centric cam with f2.0 aperture. Oh, yes, and the thing sports a Dual Camera setup too, much like the rear-facing shooter.
Needless to point out how rare it is for a handheld to boast identically powerful dual cameras, the Oppo N1 being basically the only semi-popular direct rival of the Desire Eye. But try to keep in mind the N1 features a single swiveling snapper instead of two fixed digital imaging machines.
Granted, one two swallows do not a summer make, so you should be ecstatic to hear this is hands down the most all-around impressive Desire device in history, with a 5.2-inch Full HD screen in tow, as well as tiny but booming front stereo speakers, dust and water resistance, quad-core Snapdragon 801 power, 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage space.
The somewhat underwhelming 2,400 mAh battery is probably the one false note the overall scintillating spec sheet hits, albeit there’s still a chance more juice will be finding its way inside the end product, likely to debut under the public spotlight in 48 short hours.
