Purported Motorola Moto G2 image and specs leaked

The sequel to Motorola’s best-selling Moto G will reportedly feature a similar design and slightly upgraded hardware.

The Moto G was a massive success for Motorola, thanks to its combination of near-mid-range hardware at a price previously reserved for unimpressive low-end devices, and the company looks set to use the same formula for the Moto G2.

Not much has been said about the second-generation Moto G, but with the original now more than six months old, details are starting to trickle in about the sequel, with a leaked image and information on specs kicking things off. From the former, it looks like Motorola will be sticking to the tried and tested design philosophy of its recent phones, with a few minor changes such as shifting the front-facing camera module to the right of the speaker grill.

The hardware is said to be quite similar as well. The Moto G2 purportedly has*a 720p display, quad-core Snapdragon CPU with Adreno 305 graphics, and dual SIM slots, though the camera is getting a bump to an 8-megapixel unit. Other specs aren’t mentioned, but the phone will likely run the latest version of Android, possibly Android L if Motorola launches*in November like the original Moto G.

The best feature of the Moto G was its $179 price tag, and it remains to be seen if Motorola will be able to go even lower with the successor. The company has certainly hinted that it wants to drive prices further down, and if the recently launched*Moto E is anything to go by, the Moto G2 might just become the next standard-setter for high-value budget smartphones.
