On the heels of their new Metal Gear Solid V trailer at E3, Konami delves deeper in Hideo Kojima’s immersive world with new footage of the game in action.
Earlier this morning, Konami held a live stream on the Kojima Station that broadcasted new in-game footage for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain .
The new footage is shown in a live demo structure with a narrator offering details throughout, and is captured via the PlayStation 4 in 1080p at 60FPS.
The preview*chronicles*Snake’s infiltration of a Soviet outpost in the searing sands of Afghanistan, aiming to save Miller from the enemy’s clutches. From the start, the footage exemplifies the high-performance mastery of MGS V, with impeccable graphics, facial animations, and realistic lighting.
The transition from cutscene to real-time gameplay is seamless and flawlessly executed–there are no loading sequences or pauses.
Returning to our mission at hand, the narrator brings up the tactical map–a innovative holographic display that shows nearby locations and serves as Snake’s virtual eyes throughout his endeavors. Players can mark destiniations such as vantage points to recon mission areas.
As Snake gallops through the rocky scrubland on horseback, we’re taken in by the depth of The Phantom Pain‘s immersive open world–which is roughly 200 times larger than Ground Zeroes. A blistering sandstorm suddenly stirs up, offering a look at just one of the many instances of unpredictable, dynamic weather systems featured in the game.
With the binoculars players can mark enemy locations via on-screen indicators and scout the lay of the land. Snake can hid in objects like dumpsters and discretely take out baddies, and utilize stealth maneuvers that would inspire jealousy in great assassins like Ezio.
The footage continues to highlight essential elements to the tactical stealth mechanics of The Phantom Pain, all of which take the franchise and the genre to a whole new level.
The demo*showcases an incredibly competent game whose mechanics are fluidly executed in a pristine, expansive environment, and it’s clear that Kojima hasn’t jeopardized the core themes and experiences of the classic franchise.
