The Xperia Z1 Compact is the first non-Nexus device to be updated to Android 4.4.4, ahead of even the Xperia Z2, Sony’s current flagship phone.
Sony has started pushing out the Android 4.4.4 update to the Xperia Z1 Compact, within a week of the*latest iteration of Android KitKat being released*for Nexus devices.
The update is currently rolling out in*Russia, Italy and Indonesia, and comes as something of a surprise, as Sony isn’t exactly popular for timely updates. Equally surprising is the fact that the Xperia Z2 wasn’t the first device to get Android 4.4.4, but with Sony’s*penchant for updating multiple devices at the same time, so an update for the Xperia Z2 shouldn’t be far behind.
No official changelog is available for the update, probably because 4.4.4 (and 4.4.3, which Sony skipped) is all about fixing security issues. The same update has reportedly been certified for the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra, so it likely won’t be long before Sony’s entire batch of high-end Xperia Z1′s is boasting the latest version of Android.
Here’s hoping Sony is similarly quick in updating its devices when Android L comes knocking in the fall.
