NetherRealm has announced the next title in the definitive Mortal Kombat franchise.
After Amazon’s UK branch accidentally listed Mortal Kombat X and spoiled the surprise, Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm have made it official with a brand new announce trailer.
The footage showcases a giant leap forward for the franchise as a whole, and captures a brutal bout between two of the most iconic and deadly combatants: Scorpion and Sub-Zero. From the first second alone we’re treated with a look at the dynamic environments the game has to offer: no longer are we in a set stage, but instead are in an actual immersive area with surprising photo-realism.
The fighting game has gone into a cinematic portrayal that re-defines the series and effortlessly brings a sense of watching a film–one that’s apologetically violent, visceral, and just plain awesome. As Scorpion and Sub-Zero duke it out, unleashing their archetypal abilities upon one another, they become progressively more bloody and injured–yet another new mechanic that exemplifies the game’s realism.
The game will have an expansive single-player storyline as well as a dynamic online mode where players across the globe battle for supremacy. Players will also be able to choose between different versions of each character with varying changes on fighting style and battle tactics.
